The Allied Peoples
Movement (APM) has recorded a sweeping victory in Bauchi State’s local
government elections, securing all 20 chairmanship positions up for grabs.
THE NATIONAL LENS
gathered that the party’s dominance did not stop there. According to results
announced by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), APM
also won 319 out of the 323 councillorship seats contested across the state.
The outcome came amid a
boycott by opposition parties, raising fresh questions about the
competitiveness of the exercise and the political implications of the result
for Bauchi ahead of future elections.
Reports say with all 20
chairmanship seats going to one party, the election has handed APM an
overwhelming grip on the state’s local government structure.
The big question now; Was
this a political landslide for APM, or did the opposition boycott make the
contest effectively one-sided?
Either way, Bauchi has
witnessed a local government election with a result that is already generating
political conversation.
