“Pack your bags...!'

The Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) has asked the Super Falcons’ technical crew to step down with
immediate effect, following the team’s disappointing WAFCON campaign and
failure to secure a ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
And Nigerians may be
asking... 'Was this a sack, a resignation request… or football’s version of
'thank you, but please don’t come back'?
THE NATIONAL LENS reports
that the Falcons entered the tournament as nine-time African champions, but
their campaign quickly became a roller-coaster.
A shocking defeat to
Malawi started the drama. Then came the quarter-final exit against Cameroon,
followed by another painful blow against South Africa in the World Cup playoff.
For a country accustomed
to seeing the Super Falcons dominate African football, the outcome was
difficult to swallow.
Now, the NFF has made its
move.
The federation announced
that members of the technical crew should step down immediately, although it
did not publicly state a specific reason for the decision.
But Nigerians know what
football does after a tournament goes badly:
Someone must answer the
phone. Someone must answer the questions. And eventually… someone must pack the
coaching files!
The bigger question now
is; Who will rebuild the Super Falcons?
Can Nigeria recover its
dominance in African women’s football?
And most importantly, who
is brave enough to take over the hot seat?
Because at this point,
coaching the Super Falcons may require more than tactics.
You may need a helmet!
