Some of them are senators... Some are big men — Wike

The Federal Capital
Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of
buildings constructed on designated waterways and drainage channels across
Abuja.
THE NATIONAL LENS reports
that Wike issued the directive after inspecting areas hit by the latest
flooding, particularly Maitama, where heavy rainfall exposed the consequences
of blocked water channels.
And this time, the
minister says status, wealth or political connections will not save anybody.
According to Wike, some
property owners deliberately blocked channels meant to carry stormwater under
the Abuja Master Plan.
His message was blunt: if
your house is sitting on a water channel, the bulldozer is coming!
The FCT administration
has directed its Development Control Department to begin the demolition
exercise immediately and continue through Saturday.
The minister insists the
recent flooding has exposed serious violations of Abuja’s planning regulations
and says the government has the political will to enforce the rules.
Now Abuja is waiting to
see whether the bulldozers will truly distinguish between 'big man' and
ordinary man.
Will Wike’s bulldozer
finally reach the mansions of the powerful?
