Reps Tackle Taraba Crisis, Seek Relief for Displaced Villagers
A member of the House of Representatives representing Karim-Lamido, Lau and Ardo-Kola Federal Constituency, Hon. Muhammed Audu, popularly known as Lauya, has called on the House to observe a minute of silence in honour of Nigerians killed in recent attacks in Binnari community, bordering Plateau, Bauchi and Taraba States.
The National Lens reports that the lawmaker made the call while raising a matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the House during plenary on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Abuja. The session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker.
He also urged the Federal Government to direct regional security agencies to improve intelligence sharing among security formations in Plateau, Bauchi and Taraba States to forestall future occurrences.
He noted that residents of the affected communities and surrounding villages have been forced to flee their homes following the attacks and are now facing untold hardship.
According to him, the House should urge Federal Government humanitarian agencies, including the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the National Commission for Refugees, as well as other relevant humanitarian bodies, to immediately move food items, medicines and other relief materials to the displaced persons.
"They have moved out of their villages, their suffering is beyond measure," he told the House.
The lawmaker, however, commended the proactiveness of the Taraba State Government in responding to the crisis and appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas for the gesture.
"Mr. Speaker, I cannot conclude without appreciating and commending the proactiveness of the Government of Taraba State. The first thing it did was to designate the local government as an area of security concern and has moved in a lot of food items through SEMA. Government agencies have also moved in to assess the area and to open up roads so that those Nigerians can return to their normal lives and feel safe," he said.
Hon. Muhammed Audu (Lauya) further called for sustained support to enable the displaced persons return to their homes and resume their livelihoods in a safe environment.
