Low Awareness Of Free Malaria Services: ACOMIN Seeks JNI Support In Taraba
By Sule Wakili
The Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has sought the support of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) to boost awareness and uptake of free malaria services in Taraba State.
ACOMIN made the appeal on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during an advocacy visit to JNI in Jalingo under the Global Fund GC7 Community-Led Monitoring Project.
The Team Lead, Alhaji Muhammad T. Danburam, expressed concern that despite the availability of free malaria commodities for pregnant women and children under five, awareness remains low in communities across Takum, Bali, Kurmi and Donga Local Government Areas.
He appealed to JNI to use its wide religious network to sensitize the Muslim Ummah and create demand for the services.
In his response, the State Chairman of JNI and Chief Imam of Jalingo Central Mosque, Imam Muhyiddeen Muhammad Dinga, pledged to support the initiative.
He promised to enlighten the Muslim community and direct Imams across the 16 LGAs to educate worshippers during Friday sermons and other gatherings.
In a related visit to the Taraba State TB Control Programme, ACOMIN presented community feedback on challenges affecting TB services.
The team reported delays in TB test results at Chanchanji Primary Health Care Centre in Takum LGA and shortage of sputum collection cups at Ndaforo PHCC in Kurmi LGA.
ACOMIN called for prompt investigation to remove barriers to care.
Responding, the DR-TB Focal Person, Mr. Bala Yusuf, assured the team that the issues would be investigated and addressed.
