BREAKING... FG Rules Out Ban on Large Gatherings Despite Ebola Case

By Al-Amin Ciroma

The Federal Government has ruled out immediate restrictions on large public gatherings following Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case, saying any decision to impose a ban would depend on expert advice and the prevailing public health situation.

The National Lens reliably reports that Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, said on Thursday that there was currently no justification for cancelling planned events, including political campaigns, conferences and other major gatherings.

The minister, however, warned that the government could reconsider its position if the situation changes, stressing that all decisions would be guided by scientific evidence and consultations with public health experts.

Pate also disclosed that the woman at the centre of Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case was showing signs of improvement, while health authorities continued contact tracing and monitoring to prevent further transmission.

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to remain calm, follow public health advice and avoid spreading unverified information as efforts to contain the infection continue.
