BREAKING: Eight Zamfara Lawmakers Dump APC Over Insecurity, Unpaid Entitlements
By Al-Amin Ciroma
EIGHT members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity, alleged injustice and prolonged non-payment of their salaries and other entitlements.
The lawmakers announced their resignation on Sunday, October 4, 2026, saying they could no longer remain in a party which they accused of failing to adequately address the security challenges confronting their constituents.
The National Lens reports that those who resigned include Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South), Ibrahim Tukur Bakura (Bakura), Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Muktaru Nasiru Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North), Bashar Bello (Bungudu West) and Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I).
Kagara, one of the lawmakers, alleged that the lawmakers had gone for 32 months without salaries, allowances and other entitlements, while accusing the state government of failing to give sufficient attention to security concerns in rural communities.
He said the lawmakers had repeatedly raised the issues but decided to leave the APC after their concerns allegedly failed to receive the desired attention.
The development comes amid continuing political realignments within the Zamfara APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the APC leadership in Zamfara said it had not formally received the lawmakers' resignation letters.
The party's Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji, said the party had only seen the resignation letters circulating on social media and would state its position after receiving them officially through the appropriate channels.
The lawmakers have not disclosed which political platform they intend to join.
Governor Dauda Lawal has yet to publicly respond to the allegations made by the lawmakers.
