Wife of the Senator representing Taraba North, Hajiya Mamma Fati Shu'aibu Lau, has urged youths in the state to embrace entrepreneurship instead of waiting for white-collar jobs.

Hajiya Mamma Lau, popularly known as Sarauniyar Lau, gave the advice on Sunday, 4th October, 2026, during her 51st birthday celebration held at her residence in Jalingo.

She said she chose to mark her birthday in Taraba with people at the grassroots rather than in Abuja with elites, to identify with her people amid the current economic challenges.

According to her, while her husband, Senator Shu'aibu Isa Lau, is making efforts to secure jobs for youths, many of them reject opportunities at the state and local government levels and insist on federal jobs in Abuja, which come with high cost of living.

"My husband is trying his best in securing jobs for the youth, but my problem is that many of you do not want to work with the state or local government. If you get a job in Abuja, you must rent a house for not less than N1.5 million, feed and transport yourself, and salary will only come after three months," she explained.

She stressed that government cannot employ everybody and called on youths with businesses to remain focused, assuring them of continued support.

On politics, Hajiya Mamma appealed to the people of Taraba North to re-elect her husband in 2027, saying his ranking position in the Senate would attract more opportunities as a principal officer.

The event was attended by the wife of the Taraba Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, Chairman of Jalingo LGA, Hon. Nuru Dantsoho, wives of Ardo Kola and Jalingo Chairmen, Vice Chairmen of Ardo Kola and Yorro LGAs, journalists, family members and various women groups including the Association of Vulcanizers.

The celebration featured cake cutting, dancing, and distribution of food and souvenirs.
