By Sule Wakili

That Taraba State Accountant-General, Mr. Gaius Danjuma says the state is pushing to grow its revenue without overburdening citizens.

He stated this at a symposium on tax reforms, fiscal policy and revenue optimisation for financial management specialists and project accountants, held in Jalingo.

Danjuma said sustainable revenue growth lies in plugging leakages, improving compliance and attracting investments.

He explained that identifying legitimate revenue streams and creating an enabling environment for business are more effective than imposing new taxes and levies.

According to him, financial specialists must also tighten budgeting, monitor spending and manage risks to ensure public funds deliver development.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr. Danjuma Saigudu, said the call for better revenue mobilisation has become urgent amid rising expenditure and economic pressures.

He urged accountants to fish out leakages and entrench accountability.

On his part, the State Monitor of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Mr. Pykison Yunana, charged participants to study the new NRS Act and recent tax reforms, ensure prompt deduction and remittance of taxes, and collaborate more with the NRS.

Chairman of the Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, retired General Jeremiah Faransa, rounded off with a call for discipline and professionalism in handling public finances.
