North West Governors to Take Unified Investment Pitch to UNGA81

By Al-Amin Ciroma

Governors of the seven North-West states are set to present a united economic vision for the region at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, UNGA81, on September 21, with a renewed call for global investment and long-term development partnerships.

THE NATIONAL LENS reports that the governors are expected to use the global platform to position North-West Nigeria as an emerging frontier for investment, development and transformative economic growth.

With a combined population of more than 60 million people and significant economic potential across the region, the seven states are seeking to project a shared regional agenda capable of attracting international capital, technical expertise and strategic partnerships.

The initiative is designed to move the North-West beyond fragmented state-level investment efforts by presenting the region as a single economic bloc with opportunities capable of supporting large-scale investments and development projects.

At the UN gathering, the governors will appeal to global investors, development institutions and international partners to match the region’s ambition with the capital, expertise and sustained partnerships required to drive transformation on a large scale.

The presentation is expected to highlight the region’s vast human and economic resources while emphasising the importance of coordinated investment in infrastructure, industries, human capital and other sectors critical to sustainable development.

The governors’ joint appearance at UNGA81 also signals a stronger push for regional collaboration, as North-West states seek to leverage their combined market size and resources to attract investments that could create jobs, expand economic opportunities and accelerate development.

The initiative comes as the region seeks to redefine its economic narrative by presenting North-West Nigeria not only as a major population centre, but as a destination with significant untapped opportunities for investors willing to pursue long-term partnerships.
