Niger Tragedy: Dawisu Agaie Urges Residents to Protect Lives, Public Assets

By Al-Amin Ciroma

Ambassador (Dr.) Fatima Yusuf Nuhu, Ɗawisu Agaie, has appealed to the people of Niger State to remain calm and avoid actions that could further aggravate the pain and suffering caused by the recent tragedy involving the loss of lives.

In a heartfelt message to the people of the state, Nuhu described the deaths as a painful tragedy that has affected families and communities, stressing that no parent should have to endure the loss of a child or loved one.

Our correspondent gathered that Ɗawisu Agaie acknowledged the anger and frustration arising from the incident but urged residents not to allow their emotions to lead to the destruction of government facilities and other public infrastructure.

According to her, while protests and demands for justice are legitimate, the destruction of schools, hospitals, roads, water facilities and other public assets would ultimately place additional burdens on ordinary citizens, particularly vulnerable members of society.

Amb Fatimah said the people of Niger State have the right to demand justice, accountability and good governance, as well as insist that those responsible for the tragedy be identified, investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law.

She, however, called for such demands to be pursued peacefully, urging residents to protect public facilities that are meant to serve their communities.

“What we need now is peace, wisdom, accountability and responsible leadership,” she said.

Ɗawisu Agaie also appealed to the state authorities to take necessary steps to address the situation, while urging leaders at all levels to demonstrate justice, compassion and responsibility in handling the aftermath of the tragedy.

She particularly prayed for Governor of Niger State Umaru Muhammad Bago and asked Allah Ta'ala to grant him the wisdom and courage required to respond appropriately to the difficult situation.

The community leader further called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, stressing that anyone found to have played a role should be properly identified and dealt with according to the law.

She expressed sympathy with families who lost loved ones and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died, as well as strength and comfort for everyone affected.

Dr. Fatimah concluded her appeal by calling on residents to continue praying for Niger State and Nigeria, while seeking divine protection for children, families and communities and an end to insecurity and similar tragedies.

She prayed for lasting peace, progress and security across Niger State.
