Tinubu Jets out of Nigeria for Working Vacation in Europe

By Shafii Haruna

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Europe to begin a three-week annual leave, with London, United Kingdom, as the first stop on his itinerary.

THE NATIONAL LENS reports that the President’s departure on Sunday, August 30, 2026, was confirmed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who described the trip as a working vacation.

According to the report, Tinubu will spend the period away from Nigeria while continuing to attend to matters of state before returning to the country at the end of his leave.

London is expected to be the first destination on the President’s European trip, although details of his engagements during the vacation were not immediately disclosed.

The timing of the trip comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Presidency said Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the three-week break and join preparations for the January 2027 election season.

The development marks the commencement of the President’s annual vacation at a time when his administration is also facing increasing political activity ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The Presidency, according to the report, has continued to maintain that the President’s absence from Abuja does not mean a suspension of official responsibilities, as Tinubu is expected to remain engaged with governance while on the working vacation.
