The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a press release issued on Monday, October 12, 2026.
According to the statement, police operatives attached to Bununu Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Buba, of Dull Village on October 12 following intelligence linking him to an alleged kidnapping threat.
The suspect was accused of threatening a man identified as Idris, whose other names were withheld, through a phone call and demanding ₦5 million as ransom, threatening to abduct him to an unknown destination if he failed to pay.
The police said the suspect confessed during interrogation, while the SIM card allegedly used in the ransom negotiation was recovered as an exhibit.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man, Mohammed Sani Abubakar, was arrested over an alleged cutlass attack on a 20-year-old resident of Rahama Ward in Toro Local Government Area.
The statement said the incident was reported at Rahama Police Outstation under Rishi Division at about 8:10 p.m. on October 11.
The suspect allegedly lured the victim to his house under the pretext of delivering a message before accusing him of enticing his wife and attacking him with a cutlass, inflicting a deep wound on his left hand. He was also accused of punching the victim in the armpit with a horn and assaulting him again while he was heading to the police outstation.
The victim was rescued and taken to Rahama Primary Health Care Centre, where he is receiving treatment and responding to medical care, according to the police.
The command said both suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
