From Awareness to Action: Taraba Chapter of SCIAN Sets Nov. 5 for First Awareness Day

Ten years after the global campaign for prevention of spinal cord injuries began, Taraba State is set to join the advocacy with its first-ever Spinal Cord Injury Day.

The Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria (SCIAN), Taraba State Chapter, says the maiden edition will hold on November 5, 2026, at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat, Jalingo, by 10:00 a.m.

Chairperson of the chapter, Hon. Mary James Gaisa, said the Taraba edition is in line with the 2026 International Spinal Cord Injury Day themed: "From Awareness to Action: Ten Years Advancing SCI Prevention."

According to her, the celebration is moving beyond talk to action - raising public awareness, pushing preventive measures, and spotlighting the daily challenges faced by persons living with spinal cord injuries in the state.

"This is not just an event, it is a call to prevent avoidable injuries and to give a voice to those living with SCI," Gaisa stated.

She called on members of the public, health stakeholders, NGOs, and relevant government agencies to participate in the celebration, saying their presence would add value and strengthen advocacy for inclusion and prevention in Taraba.
