The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a farmer-herder clash in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2026, at about 7:40 a.m., when three farmers from Guda Village reportedly discovered cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops on Guda Hill.
According to a press release issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the farmers chased the cattle to the herders' settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a fight, leaving the three farmers injured.
The statement added that, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilised and set fire to houses in the herders' settlement.
Police operatives from Ningi Division responded to the incident, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to General Hospital, Ningi, for medical attention.
However, one of the injured farmers, identified as Usman Jibrin, aged 40, later died while receiving treatment.
The police said the four suspects were arrested on October 8 following intelligence-led operations. They are being investigated in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation.
The commissioner also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and sympathised with those who lost property in the incident.
He assured residents that the command would work to ensure justice and warned against taking the law into one's hands.
The police commissioner further urged communities across the state to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence, particularly between farmers and herders, to prevent similar incidents.
