Zamfara, XEJet Seal Deal for Abuja-Gusau Commercial Flights

By Al-Amin Ciroma

The Zamfara State Government has entered into a partnership with XEJet Limited to commence scheduled commercial flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The agreement, signed on Monday, is expected to strengthen air connectivity between Zamfara and the Federal Capital Territory while making it easier for people, businesses and investors to travel to the state.

The National Lens reports that the development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

According to the statement, the Air Route Development Memorandum of Understanding signed between the state government and XEJet is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate business and investment, and support economic growth in Zamfara State.

Our correspondent gathered that under the Air Route Development Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), XEJet will operate bi-weekly flights from October 2026. The state government said the new route would also support tourism and economic activities by improving access to Zamfara.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Zamfara Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni, while the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, signed the agreement on behalf of the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mummuni said the partnership was in line with the administration's efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and create easier movement of people and goods across the state.

He recalled that the Gusau International Airport was constructed from scratch and completed within two years, stressing that the facility was intended to improve transportation and contribute to economic growth.

According to him, Governor Dauda Lawal has been engaging international investors and donor agencies as part of efforts to attract investment into Zamfara.

Mummuni said the commencement of commercial flights would further open the state to potential investors by making it easier to access Gusau from Abuja.

“Improving the state's accessibility is our top priority, as it will create a more welcoming environment for business growth and investment,” he said.

The state government said the Abuja-Gusau route would provide a more convenient travel option for residents, business people and visitors while strengthening the economic relevance of the newly developed airport.
