The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has reportedly died in Abuja, according to a report by News Point Nigeria.
Yusuf, who was appointed to lead the commission, had reportedly experienced health challenges in recent days, with the circumstances surrounding his reported death now generating concern.
The report claimed that the NPC chairman had suffered repeated episodes of collapse before his condition eventually deteriorated.
However, as of the time of filing this report, there was no independently verified statement from the National Population Commission, the Presidency or Yusuf's family confirming the reported death.
Yusuf assumed office as chairman of the National Population Commission following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and subsequent confirmation by the Senate. Official records show that he was sworn in at the State House in December 2025.
The National Population Commission plays a critical role in Nigeria's demographic planning, including the collection and management of population data required for national development.
Further details are expected as the commission, government authorities or members of the deceased's family respond to the report.
THE NATIONAL LENS will continue to monitor the development and provide updates as credible confirmation becomes available.
